The ABP provides comparison data with US residents at each level of training so that programs in other countries can compare the performance of their residents with that of US residents. In order for these comparisons to be valid for international programs, residents must sit for the examination near the beginning of the academic year, as US residents sit for the examination several weeks after the academic year has commenced. If residents in an international program sit for the examination more than two months from the beginning of the academic year, the results will not be comparable.
The examination year begins July 1 and ends June 30, and the examination is offered almost everyday of the year, with the exception of some US holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day). Please contact the ABP directly if there is any question about a desired testing date(s).
